Use Industrial Adhesives for Metal Bonding

We often need to attach two or more fragments of metal without welding, bolting or soldering them. The only way of completing such bonding jobs is by using a high quality industrial adhesive. Right now, the market is filled with a wide range of such bonding agents.

For attaching metal to metal, you will get bonding agents belonging primarily to three categories. They are cyanoacrylate, polyurethane and epoxy. Although these industrial products are mainly formulated for being used in industries, their use is also pretty common in homes. All these products are known for offering extremely strong bonds when used according to instructions. However, it has been found that the majority of the homeowners prefer using epoxy adhesive. Thus, in this article we will be discussing how to use epoxy to create a perfect metal-to-metal bond.

We will have to begin by preparing the surfaces we will be attaching. This step is extremely essential if you want to get the strongest possible metal-to-metal bond. First, clean the surfaces to be attached thoroughly. Here, cleaning means removing all corrosion, rust or paint from the metal parts. The job can become easier for you if you use a sanding or scraping tool. To get rid of the oil, grease, wax, dirt and dust on the surfaces using a paper towel or cloth should be enough.

Next, use a piece of fine-grit sandpaper to make the metal surfaces tougher. Also, pre-fit all the pieces of metal you are planning to attach together. This is important for ensuring that there's no big gap between those pieces.

The next step is applying the industrial adhesive. Ideally, you should complete this step following instructions provided by the manufacturer. The majority of the bonding agents used to attach metal surfaces together should be used outdoors or in well-ventilated areas. This will ensure that one doesn't end up inhaling glue fumes when assembling the metal parts.

Finally, it's time to attach the metal parts. Epoxy Industrial Adhesives is known to create the strongest possible mental-to-metal bonds. The majority of the epoxy products will require you to mix a hardening agent and an adhesive in equal parts before application. Apply the mixed solution to any one of the surfaces you are looking to attach together. Place the other surface on the glued surface and clamp them together. Wait for at least 60 minutes for the bond to form. If you have time, we would suggest you to wait for a minimum of 24 hours before using the bonded metal body.
